The officers were able to place the suspect in custody without incident after recovering a loaded. Officers were advised that there was a male at that location, wearing a red hoodie, gray pants and a black mask, in possession of a firearm.
Upon arrival, officers located a male, later identified as Jose Augostin Ferrer, 52 of Boston , fitting that description, inside of C Washington Street. Further investigation into the suspects jacket revealed a firearm. The firearm, a Smith and Wesson Revolver, was loaded with 5 rounds of ammunition.
Ferrer was placed under arrest and transported to District E for booking. During the booking process officers discovered 1 large plastic bag containing a brown powder believed to be Heroin, 24 small plastic bags containing a brown powder also believed to be Heroin and 5 ballistic rounds in the suspects property. Ferrer is expected to be arraigned in West Roxbury District Court. Deininger was shot and killed by two suspects during an auto theft stakeout in the area of Meridian and Nay Streets in East Boston.
Five suspects were later apprehended and two were charged with his murder. Prior to joining the police department in , Officer Deininger also worked a few years as a Boston Firefighter while assigned to Engine Reports at the time of his death professed that Deininger was one of the best liked police officers on the force.
An year veteran of the department, Deininger was years-old at the time of his death and was survived by his wife and two children.
